Director of Public Relations

About the opportunity

As our Director Public Relations you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future voice, reputation, relevance and visibility of one of the world’s most spoken about scale-ups. N26 is a Series-E round, pre-IPO business that is changing the world of banking, and people’s relationship with money, for the better. You will lead a world class international communications function, and will have the space to drive cross-functional collaboration across the business, improve how we communicate to our internal and external stakeholders, and position ourselves as a trusted disruptor in the European markets and abroad.

In your next challenge, you will:

• Own N26 internal and external communication efforts, as well as government affairs and policy strategy and execution. This will include close collaboration with senior stakeholders both internal and external.
• Spearhead the global PR & communications strategy to increase overall brand awareness, reputation and growth. 
• Drive messaging across all communications functions, teams, and channels including but not limited to corporate comms, investor relations, product / tech comms, lifestyle, thought leadership, stakeholder events and media relations.
• Work closely with the business’ founders, the ELT as well as the board of directors to define and craft relevant content streams aligned with the company objectives.
• Serve as media counsellor and strategist to management.
• You will develop and implement a government affairs and policy strategy for Germany and Europe to protect and promote N26 through engagement with key political entities, including government, parliamentary, regional, administrative and regulatory bodies.
• Identify, and manage relationships with, strategic industry press, bloggers and influencers as part of your overall strategy, to ensure that N26 is at the forefront of the conversation.
• Manage a team of seasoned communications professionals across corporate, consumer and internal communications disciplines, as well as a network of external agencies on strategy and day-to-day matters.
• You will work to drive excellent collaboration between the two domains within your team, Communications & Public Affairs. Together, they will identify thought leadership and political engagement opportunities for N26 and the banking industry.
• Provide strategic PR counsel and support to the wider communications team, and guide all markets with their local PR efforts.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Significant experience in Corporate Communications, Strategic Communications, Public Relations or relevant experience required, in-house or at an agency
• Strong, respected relationships with press/reporters/media in Germany, additional European countries a bonus
• Experience in leading communications strategy and execution for a business with an international presence
• Experience within regulated categories in finance and banking space is preferred, but not mandatory
• You’re a confident leader with solid experience in managing PR teams, both internal and external (i.e. PR agencies)
• Excellent writing skills in English and German: a breadth of writing styles for both internal and external stakeholders
• Proven people management skills that showcases a passion for coaching others and seeing talent grow and succeed
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and a strong passion for working closely with marketing, product and country teams. Strong team player!
• Thinking outside-of-the box combined with data driven decision making to identify new growth opportunities and prove what works and what doesn’t
• Deep understanding of customer needs in order to craft strong narratives around our propositions for our key customer segments
